Making Mindful Music

Having dabbled in the past with producing digital music using computer software, the Covid-19 lockdown reignited my interest in creating music on my PC. What I found out right away was that the world of music software had changed dramatically in the decade or so since I last produced anything.

Time to start afresh. Why not start along with me using music creation as your Mindful activity of choice - even with no previous experience.

Bandlab Music Creation Software

The picture above is the "Mix-Editor" of the software "BANDLAB". This is FREE cloud based software and so there is no need to download any programmes. Simply go to the website at bandlab.com and register, then you are ready to go. Just hit the red Create button and away you go.

This screen shows the types of input - pre recorded samples (track 1 - a drum track ), recorded MIDI tracks (The next 3 tracks - all different instruments), and a keyboard to play new notes.. There are hundred of free sets of samples in different style for you to just drop into a blank track.

I am not going to even try to do a tutorial on how to use this software because there are lots of totally free simple videos on YouTube to get you going. Here is one that will really let you jump in within a few minutes. It is by Inclusive Music and goes step by step in a simple to follow way.

For those of you who are even unsure about your ability with this, there is a much simpler phone app which is also free and I will give the details of that in a future post.

Watch out for that one

Here is the first song that I produced using this software, using the freee drum loops on Bandlab and mixing with some short samples I recorded from MyNoise Sound Generators. It may not be the best music you have ever heard, but it is a sure fire way to keep your mind focussed on an activity in a very Mindful way..

Whatever you think of the Pilgrim Track do let me know by logging in and sending a message with your thoughts and your experiences of giving music making a try.
